In Their Own Words

Selected comments from visitor surveys from 2023 exhibitions and programs.

  • "I cannot say enough good things about this museum, and the tour! My son has dysgraphia, and tends to refuse to write or draw. He bought a rainbow pencil in the gift shop, and came home drawing art on everything and wanting to discuss his and other art. The entire experience really inspired him, and was special. Val was incredibly thoughtful when setting up our educational tour. When we left, my son asked if we could come back. The last art museum I took him to, he asked, “why did you bring me here?” I really enjoyed myself as well. The tour exceeded my expectations. As homeschoolers, I am hoping to set up another tour when the exhibits change."

  • "The docents were all incredible. I saw the majority of students engaged and excited to share their thoughts. The docents also did a great job asking questions to encourage all students to be involved. I listened to many conversations where the docents led students to discover so much about the artworks. The comments the students had were amazing to hear."

  • "Loved the variety and quality of artwork- It is a small museum but it really packed a punch! I brought students with me and we were able to see some works of artists they had studied this year – Chihuly and Frank Stella."

  • "A student...told me, 'This tour was better than a day off from school.' Gave me a chuckle. 🤗 "

    Kemper Museum Docent

  • "That's why I go, because it is about other people, other places, other interests. Enjoying the art work of others makes me think about what I have in common with this diversity."

  • "Continue to bring innovative programs like the Silent KC Concerts to the museum. It's phenomenal to experience musical art in the space of visual art."

  • "I am very grateful for these events of bringing in instructors. I drop my daughter off, and also attend to view the wonderful environment, and energy in the museum it produces. Ellie Closen is great as well. She goes around to each individual and speaks, gives good advice on drawings, and encouragement to everyone. Thank you!"
